Heather Leigh: Bio

According to her parents, Heather Leigh started singing in the crib before she could talk! Music has been an integral part of her life ever since. She has performed with such prestigious choirs as the Ruth Eckerd Hall Choir and the Walt Disney World Candlelight Procession at EPCOT Center. Heather Leigh began writing her own music in her teens. "I believe music can reach across cultures, language, age and time, reach past hurts and fear, and grab someone in the depths of their soul. I believe it can change and transform, comfort and sooth, evoke passion or pain. I write about life, about learning, about living." In 2009, Heather Leigh released her original debut CD, Learn & Live, a compilation of Christian, country/blues, and love ballads. "It's a smorgasbord of themes and styles, because that's how life is!"

In the beginning...

Heather's grandpa put her on the piano bench in his church when she was four years old. She belted out "Amazing Grace" and was addicted to performing after that!

Playin' Around

Heather briefly played the violin, but found her true love at the piano where she could create her own music. She began composing in her teens and has steadily developed her songwriting skills ever since. Heather combined her love for music and her love for drama in 2007 when she completed "Through Her Eyes", a dramatic musical about the life of Jesus from Mary Magdalene's perspective. This musical is performed annually at her church and has received rave reviews from The Tampa Tribune. (see Press for direct quotations)

Heather wrote all the songs on her debut CD, Learn & Live, and also co-wrote all the songs on You're Gonna Fly (Shelly Starks).  She is currently performing with her band and co-writing with some amazing people like Mike Deeson, Tim Garmon, Charlie Parant, Mary Grace Wallace, Patrik Ryen, and more!

Life-changing moment....

Heather experienced one of the biggest trials, and biggest victories, of her life in 2008. She fell down a staircase and landed neck-first onto the handrail, paralyzing her right vocal cord. Tests were run, and doctors said she may never sing again. She was ordered to strict vocal rest for 6 months. "It seemed like the longest 6 months of my life. Suddenly, the voice that I had depended on was gone. The very essence of who I thought I was, was gone. I had always been a singer. I knew that God had given me gifts, had inspired songs. But there I was, unable to use it, and wondering if I ever would again. But God used that time to teach me valuable, amazing lessons about who I really was....my voice did not define who I was, He did." After vocal rest, a little learning, and a lot of prayer, Heather's vocal cord began to work again. She decided never to take singing for granted again, and went to work on Learn & Live, her debut CD. (available at the buy it now! tab)

What's up now?

In 2010, Heather was a featured artist on Studio 10 (ABC) twice with replays of her appearance on several more occasions.  She was also the featured artist on www.reverbnation.com twice, www.imradio.com , www.musictampabay.com , TBT Soundcheck, and did radio interviews on Boost Radio, Eklectricity, UnRegular Radio, The Johnnie O Gospel Show, and Indie Showcase.  She is a "lifetime" featured artist on www.boost-radio.com and recorded a commercial for their station.  She was also a part of two compilation projects.  The GO Worship CD was distributed as part of a fund raiser for water purification in Guatemala and featured her song, Learn & Live.  The "Fire on Water" project is dedicated to the Gulf oil spill and features her song, Paradise Lost.

In February 2011, she released "Second Chances", an EP of inspirational songs straight from her heart.  The title cut, Second Chances, is dedicated to everyone who's ever needed a second chance in life.  You'll Never Let Me Go is a song written from a place of resolution....even when we don't see God's hand or feel His presence, we know He's holding on.  There's Somethin' in the Water is an upbeat fun song written in dedication to Heather's Grandpa and his love for southern gospel/bluegrass music.  What She Didn't Know is a song about random acts of kindness and how we never know how our actions change the course of history.  I Will Trust You is a very personal song about Heather's vocal cord paralysis.  A song written in her silence, it will touch your heart.  Wait is a worship song based on Isaiah 40:31.  "Why do I try to run on my own when You said that You would give me wings?"  These songs are available now on the Buy it Now!
